Song of the Week: Chelsea Musick’s ‘Perfectly You’

chelseamusick

I always believe that God laughs at us sometimes because He thinks “I knew that was going to happen a long, long, long time ago” in certain situations or connections we may have now, but didn’t have a couple of years ago. Well add this story to the list. If you have never heard of Chelsea Musick then I wouldn’t be surprised because I never have until I found out she is the niece of my stepmother, Rocky Musick. Chelsea is a Christian Country artist and what’s crazier is that she is a South Jersey girl!

I invite you to go to her website to check her out more and the story behind the song I chose today called “Perfectly You” from her album “Perfectly You.” It’s about that we all have flaws and we “don’t have to give in to the things that this world wants you to do” – just like 1 John 2:15 says that “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

She’ll be performing at Creation East for the first time this summer so be sure to check her out if you’re going.

Song of the Week – Hillsong United’s ‘Oceans’

hillsongunitedzion

Today’s entry isn’t going to be long because Hillsong United is a well-known artist and most of you
know this song by now from their latest album Zion, which dropped at the end of February of this year. I chose this song in particular because it is probably my favorite, but seriously, the ENTIRE album is fantastic so go get a copy yourself!

This song talks about walking upon the Lord’s path with His help where our feet may fail or fall or stumble, etc. I particularly love to close my eyes, lift my arms up, and stretch my hands out and burst out singing to the bridge of this song: “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, and my faith will be made stronger, in the presence of my Savior.”

Song of the Week: For Today’s ‘Crown of Thorns’

fortoday

If you have never heard of For Today before, I would not be surprised. I am usually not a fan of scream-o music, but I actually would consider For Today a step below scream-o and a step above TFK/Disciple/Red/Skillet type of bands. Most of you will say they are scream-o, and that’s okay, but I say they are a step below scream-o because you can actually understand their lyrics and with most scream-o bands I know – I can’t understand one word they say hahaha.

Anyway, For Today released a new EP a couple weeks ago called Prevailer and the song “Crown of Thorns” is the choice today. If you think their music is hardcore, then you have to listen (or read if you can’t understand them) to their lyrics because they are just as hardcore (lingo for “pretty good”). Just a sample from the song I love a lot is the passion when they say, “It should have been me, with the nails through my hands and feet, facing the wrath of God, it should have been me, left to pay for my sin forsaken, but in the blood I stand, it should be have been me…”
