It’s Skillet day on the blog! Okay, maybe not, but they are the choice for Music Monday today. Skillet is one of my favorite artists/bands next to Tenth Avenue North, Switchfoot, Lecrae, and Audrey Assad. “Hero” is the first track off their “Awake and Alive” (2009) album, which to this day, was their latest album. Hard to believe it has been 4 years since their last album, but no worries, they are coming out with a brand new album called “Rise” in May and they will also be at Creation Festival Northeast this summer!
“Hero” has two meanings, according to lead singer John Cooper in interviews (written and audio): 1.) Christ is the reason we are living and He is our “Hero,” who’s fighting for us 2.) As the music video shows, it is about our everyday heroes – like firefighters, police officers, soldiers, etc. – in our lives as well. Now this isn’t to say if you aren’t a firefighter, police officer, or soldier that you aren’t a hero then because that is totally false. We are all heroes in different ways to different people and different communities.
If you still don’t understand what I mean, go listen to “Hero” by Kutless (don’t know tell anyone I used two songs on Music Monday haha), which states “You could be a hero, you could be the change in this world. Rise above the normal, don’t have to be afraid any more. We are the light, we are the hope, we are the love, inside worth fighting for. You could be, you could be, you could be a hero.”
