I have a tattoo of lyrics from one of my favorite bands, Switchfoot. The lyrics are from the song “Where I Belong” and it reads “†his skin and bones is a rental.” If you have heard the song then you know what it means or you know what it means by just reading it.
But a lot of people ask me, “what does that mean?” or “why would you get that?” In that moment, that is when I get to share with them the most precious gift that they might not even know exists yet. Death has been defeated when Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. “†his skin and bones is a rental” means that our earthly bodies are temporary in this world, they are a “rental.”
Where we belong in the end is not on this earth, but in heaven, if we accept Him into our hearts and proclaim Him Lord. John 11:25 states, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Well, do you? And if you do, go spread the good news now!
As we celebrate Advent season and Christ’s birth, let’s remember that this life is short but eternity in heaven is forever.
Andrew “Turtle” Robertson has been coming to camp so long he has his own T-shirt. He graduated from Eastern University in May.
