Today starts our weekly feature called Tuesday Testimony where campers, staff and parents will share their story about how God used Delanco this summer in their lives. If you would like to share your story email dan.ulrich@delanco.org.
Even in the chaos and uncertainty that comes with growing up; I’ve been blessed that Delanco Camp has been a constant in my life. For 13 summers straight, I have had the opportunity to encounter God in many life changing ways at Delanco. No matter the season of my life, whether spiritually dry or spiritually high, God has never failed to teach me something about being in His presence.
This summer came with a lot of uncertainty for me. I just graduated college, I am too old to attend Delanco as a camper, I didn’t have a youth group, and I had to leave my college Christian fellowship behind. Where could I possibly see God in my life now? I served as a counselor at Junior High 1 (wooohoo down big!!!!) and God definitely answered my prayers. I got to know so many campers in so many walks of life. I had some of the deepest, most sincere conversations about Jesus and walking with Him. It was refreshing to hear some of my campers stories about how Delanco was helping shape them as men and women of God as it did to me. I realized that even as I grew older and dove more into the complexity of God, having questions and doubts of my own, none of those things made Him unreachable—He is the same today as He was yesterday and as He will be tomorrow.
This summer I had multiple conversations with campers who were afraid of losing their faith when they left camp. And I just remember thinking how awesome it was that we love and serve the same God who meets our every need no matter what it is. Whether you are seeking to know God deeper outside of camp or seeking his plan for your life post-college, like me, know this: He is there. He is patient. He is good.
This year God revealed to me the fruit in my life that started from building the foundation of my faith at Delanco Camp. He reminded me that I’ve been freed of the worries and struggles I faced in high school—that they aren’t even second thoughts in my head today. He has given me a space to influence others’ lives and I can only pray that my testimony will encourage others as much as it has changed who I am. I can’t wait to see how God uses Delanco in the next chapter of my life!
