A shutout, nine double-digit seed winners and close calls marked the first round of the 2012 Blog Madness.
Pretzel Roll Sandwiches, the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament and the favorite to win it all, became even more of a favorite after their first round 55-0 demolotion of Apple Sauce. It’s the first shutout in Blog Madness history (this is year three) and a real blow to the apple farmers in Burlington County.
The other three No. 1 seeds advanced, though not as comfortably. But a No. 2 seed, Baked Ziti, lost with a buzzer beater to Salad Bar, proving that green foods aren’t completely disregarded in the Delanco Camp community.
In a battle of foods made with cheese, 13th seeded Grilled Cheese narrowly defeated Mac and Cheese for the upset. The other double-digit seeds advancing were Granola (with a two-point win over Yogurt), Pancakes, Hot Dogs, Boost, Stromboli, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Water Ice.
It will be interesting to see how all of these lower seeds fare in the second round, not to mention whether Pretzel Roll Sandwiches opponent, Burgers, will score any points on the favorites.

Salad bar? Really? Didn’t see that coming.
I didn’t either. Crazy.
Dave Ralph will be disappointed since Baked Ziti is his favorite meal at camp.
