I have been waiting for “Recharge” weekend for a while since I knew about it a couple months ago. I volunteered in the kitchen for the weekend. I was so excited for the weekend because it was the weekend after my final push to get assignments/projects done for school (Eastern University). But, also it was the weekend right before final exams, so I was thrilled just to not worry about school, focus on God, and have fun! That’s exactly what happened to me, ha ha ha.
There’s an upside and downside to a weekend at camp. The upside is you’re at camp for the entire weekend, having fun, and building a closer relationship to God. The downside is that you have to leave in two days. The speaker of the weekend was Josh Hallahan, and Friday night He spoke about surrendering to God and giving it all to Him. The verse of the weekend was Ephesians 3:14-21, which is a prayer for the Ephesians, talks about “…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ…”
After service, there were funnel cakes and pretzels for snack and some fun games inside the dining hall (like dodgeball for example). The night ended with a bonfire at the fire ring. Saturday was a typical day at Delanco Camp in the summertime. Breakfast, chapel, Jr. High classes and planned rec., sr. high classes and planned rec., lunch, a planned rec. for everyone, free-time, clean-up time, dinner, small groups, service, snack/night games, and bonfire. After cleaning up from breakfast, I just walked around camp because I missed that place so much. Also to see a little bit of the classes and they seem really interesting and a good time (almost wanted to be a camper again, ha ha ha). After lunch, I got to tag along with the sr. high campers/staff and played some ultimate frisbee on the BLAZING HOT soccer field – which definitely means blisters. The planned rec. for everyone was a volleyball tournament, which was really enjoying. I was on Team Phillies along with Julio (one of the deans for the weekend), Jen (who substituted for Julio in our third game because he got injured) Sarah, Melanie, Tori, and Hannah. We won our first game, and then I believed lost back to back. The championship team of campers played the staff team (which I was on), and I’ll just say that it wasn’t a very couple of games for our staff because we pretty much got crushed.
Ending with Saturday night and Sunday was gloomy because we all knew that the weekend was quickly coming to an end already. Saturday night at service, Josh had a long, glass jar filled with Lake Agape to the very top. He talked about a couple points with the filled jar, one being to not just take your jar with you to church on Sunday and then Monday through Saturday – to just leave it somewhere and not take it with you. But to always carry your jar with you 24/7 because God is always with you. Another one was that the Lake Agape water represented God, and what a lot of us do is try to push Him away and only ask for His help when we need it. To represent this, if we put rocks into the jar then water would splash out and the more rocks we put into it – the more water that is going to be pushed out (like pushing God away) and not to do this, but instead let Him help us and that He is there with us everytime.
All in all, it was a very fun and enjoyable weekend, but I really think the campers took home what Josh was preaching during the weekend. I believe a lot of campers were impacted throughout the weekend, in a good way, by starting a new relationship with the Lord or recharging a relationship with Him. It was sad for the weekend to be over already, but it just makes me more pumped for the summer! Hope to see you all back this summer at Delanco Camp! Peace Out.
