Philippians 2:13, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
Expression is strong. A reinforced tool used in order to tap into our unconscious mind. We pull our sins, issues, mental blockages, or any lingering thoughts that we have or have had, and transport them into a form of art.
Sometimes it comes to us naturally, but in other cases, we need a hint of inspiration; it could be a light, a sound, a word, or an image. God likes to whisper, a whisper that is not always easy to hear. It is faint and subtle, but it is there. In order to absorb His call, we worship. Through song, scripture, prayer, or just simply sitting in silence; I like to think that ever time we worship, His voice gets louder. When God speaks to me, His call draws me to music.
Songwriting is one of my many passions. I love the moments when I am writing a worship song and the words just seem to flow our from within me. I press down my pen and just let go.
The theme for Teen Camp 2013 was Stained Clean. My friend Lexi and I wrote a song with the same title and we performed it during morning chapel. What I thought was just a catchy tune turned into a movement that seemed to bring everyone in chapel together. The voice of God was screaming and I realized then that is this how God uses me. He used my gift to bring those that listen together. This is how I hear God’s call and I plan to keep shouting back!
