Bible Time: Pray

Bible time! Read 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

In John 15:14 Jesus says “ are my friends.” (NLT) Think about your friends for a moment. When was the last time you talked to your bff? Before you opened this right? You texted them, or called them. I can’t go a day without talking to my best friends! So why is it that we can go weeks without talking to God?

How can we forget to talk to our friends? That just doesn’t happen. Jesus doesn’t forget you. I’m not trying to make anyone feel guilty but let’s face reality, prayer doesn’t always come before texting. Proverbs 15:8 says “… He delights in the prayers of the upright.” (NLT) Jesus likes to hear from us!

Prayer is doing business with God. Matthew 6:6 says “…When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”(NIV)

Just like you vent to your friends, vent to God. There’s a difference here… Your friends can’t always help you with your problems, they can give you advice and be a shoulder to cry on, but Jesus can do so much more. John 14:13-14 says “I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (NIV) Although it tells us in Matthew 6:8 “your Father knows exactly what you need before you ask him!” (NLT) He still wants to hear it from you! “…ask me…”And doesn’t it feel good to get things off your chest?

It is important to remember that prayer isn’t all about “can You?” and “will You?” it’s also about “thank You!” and “praise You!.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us “Give thanks in all circumstances…” (NIV)

Which brings us to our song today. Continue reading “Bible Time: Pray”

New directors, officers elected

(From Left) Kevin Strauch, Jason Costomiris, Mike Bill and Dan Ulrich

The camp’s stockholders gathered for their annual meeting on Saturday afternoon in the dining hall and elected new members to the board of directors and a new slate of officers for the 2011 calendar year.

Mike Bill was elected president, Daniel Ulrich vice president, Kevin Strauch treasurer and Jason Costomiris secretary. Their terms begin in January 2011.

Elected to the board of directors were Nina Crain and Scott Lederer, who both will be filling unexpired terms (class of 2011) and class of 2013 members Rev. Carlton Bodine Jr., Rick Court, Darryl Duer, Brandon Cobb, Daniel Ulrich, Eric Ulrich and Cheryl Turk.

In other business, Andrew Robertson, Rich Dugan, Rachael Bill and Emily Heckman were approved as new stockholders.

On behalf of all of the stockholders, I would like to thank Laurie Rambo for her exemplary service as president and outgoing directors Sherry Gaventa, Josh Hallahan and Steve Tucker for all of their hard work and dedication.

I concur with CJ Caufield, our camp coordinator, when he mentioned during his report to the stockholders how lucky we are as an organization to have so many talented and committed people who are willing to sacrifice their time and talents for our Lord.

And so it begins…

Today marked the beginning of the 112th Camp Meeting. As the campers, both adults and kids, began to file on to the grounds, the excitement began to fill the air as another Camp season began to dawn on us. Much tomfoolery took place, such as little children picking up sticks and beating them against trees (much to the concern of some parents), parents and children alike ran into the lake to splash each other. Ah yes, we begin yet again, treading down a familiar path with some familiar and some new faces. Let the excitement set in as we begin an exciting journey throughout this summer.

On a side note, I regretfully say that we cannot give you the sermon of this evening as we were experiencing technical difficulties with our sound board. But, we are back up and running now and should be able to bring you the sermon tomorrow night.

Good night from Delanco Camp!
